A guide to Lisbon

A couple of weeks ago me and my friend packed our cases and headed off to Lisbon for a couple of days. We'd planned a few things we wanted to do but a load of things just happened by chance and we are so glad they did! Here is a little bit of what we did in Lisbon and a few things we'd recommend!

TO EAT

Let's start with this because let's face it food is one of the most important things, trying new places when you're on holiday is the best! SO....let's talk ice cream! You have to go to the Amerino Ice Cream Parlour! There are two shops in Lisbon and they do the most incredible ice cream you will have ever tried. Not only does it taste incredible, the ice cream comes in a flower design that is beaut! Snap your pics quickly though because the Lisbon sun will melt it before you know it! Next you should head to the Time Out Market where they have ever type of food you could imagine. We ate at the 'Alexandre Silva' stand and it was insane! Unfortunately we didn't get chance to go back again but you'd never run out of things to try there! Now for breakfast we tried no end of croissants and coffee's from a whole array of cafés. The Portuguese know how to do a good coffee let's just say that! On out last morning we went to the Hard Rock Café and sampled their finest pancakes! Head here if you want a more filling breakfast and the chance to stare of Justin Timberlake's N-Sync outfits!

TO VISIT

My biggest recommendation I could give would be to spend some time just wandering the streets of Lisbon. We spend two afternoons just wandering our way around the city and discovering some beautiful back streets that are hidden away! We also went to the Castle up on the Hill and the views are incredible. Take your student card if you're a student and you'll get a discount! To get there take Tram 28, it'll be packed full of locals and tourists that are getting around the city. It's the best way to travel up the hills and gives you the best views! Finally I'd recommend a day trip to Sintra. We got the train direct from Lisbon and it cost us hardly anything. We then climbed the mountain - it's a legit mountain up to the Palace! It's a great thing to do and even though it was a bit cloudy right at the top the views were incred!

TO DO

You must get a tuc tuc! We got ours down the mountain from the palace in Sintra and it was pretty speedy! So much fun! They're floating everywhere around Lisbon so just shout one down! As you can see from my hair - hold on tight! I would say try to watch some sort of sunset or sunrise! This is arguably the most beautiful part of the day and where ever you catch it from will be sure to give you some pretty stunning pics!

TO DRINK
________________________________________________________________________________________

Ginja is a traditional Portuguese drink and you will see it everywhere. We picked a little shot up from a market stand and you'll find loads of them come in little chocolate cups. It's like a very sweet, and cold, mulled wine and to be honest I thought it was delicious! Wine is very cheap in Lisbon...dangerously cheap haha! Now I'm not a wine connoisseur but everyone we tasted was great! I'd definitely recommend the IBO café on the seafront, it's near the time out market. We tried the caipirinha cocktail (essentially a mojito without a mint) and it was so good! If mojito's are your thing go for it! Something else I'd suggest is going to a rooftop bar at some point. We headed to the sixth floor of the Bairro Alto Hotel (very posh!), watched the sunset and set the world to rights with a glass of wine in hand! '

That was my quick guide to Lisbon! A few recommendations if you're thinking of a trip to Lisbon anytime soon!
