The Soap and Glory Collagen-Coat Mascara

To be precise the full name of this product is the Soap and Glory Thick and Fast High-Definition Collagen-Coat Mascara. A mouthful to say the least. For my birthday back in February my Auntie got me this mascara as a part of an S&G set, so I've been trialing it for a couple of months now and thought I'd give you my thoughts. I'll be talking about everything from the packaging to the brush to the staying power so lets go.

THE PACKAGING
____________________________________________________________________________
I'll start with this because it's probably the most striking thing about this product. Whenever I've been to the Soap and Glory stand, this product always stands out and you can see why. It's bright gold, shiny covering with strong black writing only raises my expectations on this product. It's like it's saying 'I'm the super duper version of the original thick and fast mascara'. Does it add anything to the product? Aside from a bit of glitz not really but I guess that's what it's there for. However the quality is good, and it's got a strong screw top, doesn't feel flimsy, and I must say the gold does look expensive in my make up bag.

THE PRODUCT
____________________________________________________________________________

I find mascara's to be one of the most frustrating products out there. The range of colours, types, thicknesses and everything else can be a bit of a mind field. However this mascara claims to have something that I've never tried before, the strength building collagen. This aspect is meant to help grow and strengthen your lashes, and when the product is on, they do look healthy, stronger and more defined. However I wouldn't say I've seen a great difference in my lashes, but I have only been using the product for a couple of months.

THE BRUSH
____________________________________________________________________________

To me the brush of a mascara says a lot about whether I'll like it or not. The brush is plastic, and the bristles themselves are quite scratchy. However they do hold an apply a good amount of product which is good. After a couple of coats they've built up a generous application which I like. When I went onto the boots website to find the price of this (I'll talk about that later), one of the major selling points of the brush was a V-shaped design. I can't really see this, and until I read it I had no idea it existed. The amount of product that holds to the brush, make the bristles quite thick and I think it loses the specific shape.

APPLICATION AND STAYING POWER
____________________________________________________________________________

The product applies really well. After a couple of coats I'm good to go, and it serves for a fantastic all round, everyday, day to night mascara. I wear this all the time. Again having looked online, I see it gives application instructions to get the most out of the product, however I've not been applying it like this and it's appearance hasn't disappointed me. Now to the staying power, I'd say its ok. It claims to last 24 hours, this isn't true, but I wouldn't expect it too, I'd say after 12 hours it does begin to flake a little, but nothing major, and with a spruce up would carry on into the night if it had been on all day. Waterproof? Not really, but it doesn't claim to be.

THE PRICE
____________________________________________________________________________

This product is available at Boots for £10.50. As far as Soap and Glory goes, I'd say it's reasonably priced, and in comparison to a couple of my other favourites from the likes of benefit I'd say it's good value. But unfortunately I'd say you're paying for the unimportant things - like the packaging, and the brush shape and the collagen that doesn't do a lot. Forget about all those things and it's still a good mascara, that is probably worth the money.

Would I recommend it? Yeah I think I would. What I'd say though it don't have great expectations, the packaging really makes you think this product is, well literally gold, and it's not, but it is a good mascara.
